Green Exploration has partnered with the Region 1 Planning Council to present Resilient Rockford Region (R3) to the greater Rockford metropolitan area with a series of community chats and expert discussions to provide educational sessions on various aspects of sustainability that the region aims to utilize to ensure a sustainable and equitable future for all residents.

Topics will range from electric vehicle readiness, planning, energy, waste management, stormwater management, circular economy, engineering, community and economic development, and funding opportunities.

Community Impact of Heavy Duty Vehicle Electrification

When? August 30th, 2023 at 12:00-12:30 pm

Tune in as Dr. Jane Lin, civil, materials, and environmental engineering professor from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and Haley Dahl, student at the University of Illinois at Chicago and creator of Green Exploration: Rockford, discuss how the Rockford Region can prepare for the electrification of its heavy vehicles to reduce regional diesel emissions. We will highlight Dr. Lin’s involvement in two electrification projects, one funded by the US EPA and the other by IDOT, and focus on the environmental and public health benefits of making this transition.

Dr. Jane Lin, Civil, Materials and Environmental Engineering Professor, University of Illinois at Chicago

Dr. Lin is a Professor in the Department of Civil, Materials, and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois Chicago, with a joint appointment at the Institute for Environmental Science and Policy at UIC. Her research focuses on sustainable transportation design, analysis, and optimization in both passenger and goods transportation. Lin is an appointed member of the Board of the Scientific Counselors at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). She chairs the Sustainability & Resilience Group of the Transportation Research Board (TRB). Lin is editor of Transport Policy, and associate editor of Transportation Research Part D: Transportation and the Environment.

Mr. Milburn has more than thirty years of technical and business development experience in industrial and commercial energy and environmentally related technologies. He has been a Co-owner of Green Way Energy, LLC, d.b.a. Green Ways 2Go (GW2G) since 2011, focusing on assisting business, governmental and multi-family dwelling clients to make informed decisions related to clean transportation and clean energy solutions. GW2G has been involved in the supply and/or installation of 150 Level 2 and DC Fast Charging points in the midwest.

Since 2016, active as Project Advisor working with the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus (MMC) for their EV Readiness Program and other Alternative Fuels programs. Since 2016, Active as Project Advisor for Illinois Alliance for Clean Transportation (IACT, a US DOE Clean Cites Coalition) for Alternative Fuel Corridor Study for Illinois, First Responder Program, EMPOWER workplace charging programs and other programs, exploring stakeholder interests and issues using alternative fuels. In 2022, IACT presented Tim with their EV
Charging Solutions Award.
